In May 1992, the renovation of an old ConAgra food processing plant in Omaha, Nebraska, began. After three months of demolition, renovation, and construction, the processing equipment began to arrive; new lines were installed, and tortillas began to be produced by November of 1992. Our first truckload of tortillas was shipped to our first customer in January 1993. Casa de Oro Foods was officially in business as a new division within ConAgra Foods. In 1998, Casa de Oro Foods purchased Mesa Foods in Louisville, Kentucky, which in addition to heat pressed tortillas, manufactured tortilla chips, taco shells, corn tortillas, pre-fried chips, and flatbread products. In 2004, Plaza Belmont Management Group of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, an investment company specializing in food manufacturing companies, purchased Casa de Oro Foods from ConAgra. Over the years, we have added production lines, customers, and products. Our primary focus is the foodservice, co-pack, private label, and retail markets. Casa de Oro products can be found in all areas east of the Rockies. We also supply major U.S. food companies with manufactured products. Casa de Oro produces both proprietary products and company products for national restaurants and food service accounts. Casa de Oro Foods is one of the top 5 largest tortilla companies in the United States. We have the only pilot facility to facilitate formulation and production processes in the industry. We manufacture over 6 million tortillas per day and have an industry-wide reputation for quality, flexibility, value, and success. We have achieved the highest rating – Superior – from the American Institute of Baking (A.I.B.) each and every year and became ISO 9002 certified in 1998.
